Common causes
A mini-split indoor fan can remain at one speed because of the system settings or operating mode. On some models, modes such as Auto, Dry or certain stages of heating may control fan speed automatically. Other possible causes include a problem with the remote control or its signal, dirty filters, a fault in the fan motor, its electronic controls or the control board. Fan-speed operation and possible causes vary by manufacturer and model.
When to request service
First confirm that the selected operating mode allows manual fan-speed changes and check the manufacturer's instructions. You can also check the remote-control batteries and clean the filters according to the manufacturer's directions. If the fan continues to run at only one speed, does not respond to requested speed changes, makes unusual noises or develops other symptoms, request a professional evaluation. Do not open electrical components or attempt to repair the control board or motor yourself.
How much can this repair cost?
Basic air conditioning repairs or initial work typically range from $650–$1,200 MXN. Repairs requiring parts or more extensive work can range from $1,200–$5,500+ MXN.
The final cost depends on the cause of the problem, diagnosis, labor, required parts and materials. Replacement parts are quoted separately when applicable.
