Common causes

A mini-split can develop ice for several reasons. Possible causes include dirty filters, restricted airflow, dirt on the coil or blower, fan problems, a temperature sensor, or a condition involving the refrigeration system. Ice may appear on the indoor unit or refrigerant lines and usually indicates that the system is not operating under normal conditions.

When to request service

If you notice ice, turn off cooling mode and allow the system to thaw without removing the ice with objects. Check the filters and make sure airflow is not blocked. Consider requesting service if the mini-split freezes again, provides weak cooling, leaks water after thawing, or the problem continues after the filters have been cleaned.

How much can this repair cost?

Basic air conditioning repairs or initial work typically range from $650–$1,200 MXN. Repairs requiring parts or more extensive work can range from $1,200–$5,500+ MXN.

The final cost depends on the cause of the problem, diagnosis, labor, required parts and materials. Replacement parts are quoted separately when applicable.
