Common causes
A mini-split can stop cooling properly for several reasons. Some causes are simple to check, while others require system diagnosis. Common causes include dirty filters, restricted airflow, dirty coils, drainage problems, electrical faults, or issues related to the refrigerant.
When to request service
If cleaning the filter, checking the thermostat setting and confirming that airflow is not blocked do not solve the problem, professional diagnosis may be needed. Service is especially important if the unit repeatedly freezes, leaks water, makes unusual noises, shuts down unexpectedly or continues running without cooling the room properly.
How much can this repair cost?
Basic air conditioning repairs or initial work typically range from $650–$1,200 MXN. Repairs requiring parts or more extensive work can range from $1,200–$5,500+ MXN.
The final cost depends on the cause of the problem, diagnosis, labor, required parts and materials. Replacement parts are quoted separately when applicable.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my mini-split running but not cooling?
There can be several causes, including dirty filters, restricted airflow, incorrect settings, electrical problems, refrigerant issues, or other system faults. The cause should be identified before replacing parts or adding refrigerant.
Can a dirty filter cause a mini-split to stop cooling properly?
Yes. A filter with accumulated dust can reduce airflow and affect system performance. Checking and cleaning the filter is one of the basic steps that can be taken when a mini-split is cooling less effectively than normal.
Does a mini-split that is not cooling always need refrigerant?
No. Poor cooling can have several different causes, and adding refrigerant without a diagnosis may not solve the problem. If refrigerant has been lost, it is also important to determine why the loss occurred.
Why is ice forming on my mini-split?
Ice formation can be related to insufficient airflow, dirty filters or coils, refrigerant problems, or other system conditions. If ice repeatedly forms, the equipment should be inspected before continued use.
